Reed Family Pictures
For part of my mother-in-law's Christmas present, we decided to get family pictures taken. About a 1/2 hour into the session, a look of horror came across our photographer... She didn't have the flash on the right setting. Yep - all the pictures she took up to that point were junk! Ugh! Does she know how difficult it is to get pictures taken with 10 people? Including an 11-month old?

Sentimental
I've used this blog mostly to capture family fun. I don't think I have ever actually 'blogged' about my thoughts. So, here's a first...
Last night, we were getting ready to take Reagan to the emergency room because she couldn't breathe. We called the doctor and he said that her symptoms sounded like Croup. He instructed us to take her outside so she could breathe the cold air for 15 minutes. So, Mike bundled himself up. I put a hat on Reagan and wrapped her in a blanket. The two of them sat on the patio at 1:00am. Thankfully, it seemed to help. She was able to sleep the rest of the night.
This event made my mind race... Really? Sit outside in the cold? There's no better remedy? Seems kind of archaic.... There's nothing more scientific or technological?
(Follow me now) So, from those thoughts, my mind wandered to the technological advances that have occurred since I was a kid... Things I experienced that my kids will never know about...

- Riding around town in the bed of a pick-up truck (Our softball teams frequently traveled to games this way)
- Getting up off the couch and turning the dial to change the channel on the tv (dials on phones, too)
- Listening to the radio for hours, waiting to hear that one song so I could tape record it
- Blowing in the Atari cartridges to get them to work
- Popping ice cubes out of a tray
- Fighting with my brother over the front seat of the car
- Bringing in wood for the fireplace (not just flipping the switch on the wall to start a fire)
- Doing research by looking in the encyclopedias in the family room
- Yelling to my mom that the tv picture looked good while she was outside turning the antenna
- Tanning by the pool with baby oil and iodine (yeah - that was dumb!)
- Using a pay phone
- Needing a collection of maps in the door pocket so you could find how to get someplace (no Mapquest, no GPS)
- Taking pictures and waiting for days for the film to be sent out an developed before seeing the results

Actually, I felt the effects of this big slide for two days - ugh!
This year, I decided that it would be much easier to have his birthday party anywhere except our house! Also, I figured that this would be a good year to have a big party because Reagan's first birthday will be next month.
We went to a place that had big, bouncy 'stuff''. Nicholas got a crown and scepter... He wouldn't wear them!

Oh - did I mention that the adults had fun too? Look that's Mike!

Tree Decorating
Christmas tree decorating is supposed to fun, right? A great family tradition... lots of lasting memories...
Well, it started out that way
But, after several broken ornaments and crying kids. We banished Reagan to her bumbo seat.
I played Christmas music, thinking it would put us all in better moods - it didn't! Instead, Mike and I broke out the beer (some family tradition, huh? sorry kids)
Then, I was able to snap these pictures. They are precious!
These pictures of Nicholas and the Nativity make me realize that it doesn't really matter if the Christmas tree looks perfect. It doesn't matter if ornaments get broken. It really doesn't matter if a string of lights goes out on the tree (which happened today). None of those things matter...

Thanksgiving Dinner
Aaahhhh.... Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for. We have our health, great jobs, great friends, and awesome family.
Each year, we spend lunch with my family and dinner with Mike's family. This year, I decided that I was going to take pictures of all our family. Well, my picture-taking skill is something that I'm not thankful for. I was trying for candid shots. I got some good ones (and some bad ones). The worst part is that I didn't get everyone... bummer!

Halloween Costumes
I thought I should get my Halloween pictures posted before Thanksgiving is here (last day!)...
Things were so chaotic the evening of trick-or-treat that I forgot to take pictures. So, I re-dressed Nicholas and Reagan a week later just to take pictures. You can see that they're thrilled about it...
Reagan was a bumblebee (a hand-me-down from Nicholas's first Halloween). Nicholas was Woody from Toy Story. He was upset that he didn't have a yellow shirt like Woody. (I thought he looked pretty darn cute anyway!)
